Zoom!2® Teeth Whitening Technique: Whiter Teeth Today
The second generation of the popular Zoom!® Teeth Whitening system - Zoom!2® Teeth Whitening - ups the ante on whitening and comfort for patients who want immediate results.
Zoom!2® improves the longevity of its popular whitening method, keeping teeth up to 15 percent lighter after treatment when compared with the original Zoom!® system. Plus, the results last longer, meaning there is less decline in whitening over time.
Patient comfort has also improved with Zoom!2®. Patients using Zoom!2® report about 70 percent less sensitivity when compared with the original Zoom!®, a system already noted for its low sensitivity characteristics. For those who do experience tooth sensitivity, it typically goes away in one to three days.
Cosmetic dentist Andrew G. Mortensen, serving Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and all of Orange County, points out that Zoom!2® teeth whitening has long been considered one of the best whitening treatments in the industry. Zoom!2® can rejuvenate your smile in less than an hour by making your teeth up to eight shades brighter.
Zoom!2® Treatment
The Zoom!2® treatment starts with the application of a protective covering on the lips and gums. Only the teeth are visible in the mouth. Protective eyewear is also provided. After the teeth are isolated, a whitening gel is applied to the teeth.
The Zoom!2® lamp is then placed over the mouth. This special lamp activates the whitening gel that will break down stains and discolorations inside the enamel and dentin, bleaching the discolorations without harming the tooth.
The Zoom!2® procedure is followed up with a fluoride treatment to help reduce tooth sensitivity.
After your treatment, you will be given instructions on how to maintain your brighter smile as well as a touch-up kit that you can use at home when stains begin to reappear. You are also encouraged to maintain your smile by flossing, brushing twice daily, and getting regular dental cleanings.
Good Candidates
Most people can benefit from teeth whitening since everyday foods and tobacco can discolor teeth. However, teeth whitening is not for everyone. Dr. Mortensen will assess your teeth and the type of discoloration you have to determine whether teeth whitening will benefit you.
People who are not good candidates for Zoom!2® include patients who are sensitive to light, are undergoing photo-chemotherapy, or have melanoma. If you are taking medications that make you sensitive to light, you should consult your physician before undergoing the Zoom!2® treatment.
Women who are nursing or pregnant and children under age 13 also should not undergo teeth whitening.
