What Are Dentures?

/

Dentures are a full or partial set of false teeth. Some are removable, like traditional dentures, while others are permanently attached, like implant-supported dentures.

Dentures Create a Natural, Functional New Smile

Like dental bridges or full mouth reconstruction, dentures are a form of restorative dentistry that can change lives. Experience the difference — and results like this — at our Fountain Valley practice.

Why Do Patients Choose Dentures?

Modern dentures offer a range of benefits. They look, fit, and function better than ever before. With our dentures, you can expect:

A Beautiful Smile

A full set of functioning teeth can improve the appearance of your smile and help you feel more confident in social settings.

Good Oral Health

Tooth decay or trauma can cause widespread damage to your mouth. Addressing these concerns and receiving dentures can have oral and overall health benefits.

A Varied Diet

You've likely spent years craving food you can't eat. With dentures, you can finally enjoy a rich, nutritious, and tasty diet that includes all of your favorite foods.

Jaw Protection

Missing teeth can lead to jawbone atrophy. Implant-supported dentures stimulate the jaw, preventing this bone loss and a sunken appearance.

Improved Daily Function

Soon, you will be able to enjoy the simple everyday activities that you have missed. Speaking, chewing, and biting will all be improved with dentures.

Deciding Between Complete Dentures And Partial Dentures

Denture in hand

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures, or full dentures, are designed to replace all of your teeth. There will be one set for your upper dental arch and one for your lower dental arch.

Partial denture in hand

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures can replace areas of tooth loss throughout your mouth. Generally, they are used when a patient is missing at least three teeth located right next to each other.

Looking at Dental Implants The Permanent Solution to Anchor Your Dentures

An implant can be placed securely in your jawbone to support restorations. Crowns are used to replace a single tooth, but implants can also support bridges and dentures to replace multiple teeth. Dental implants can last a lifetime when cared for properly.

How We Place Dentures To Give You a Beautiful, Functional Smile

Dr. Mortensen takes great care to ensure that the right treatment is performed to suit a patient’s particular gums and jawbone structure.

Consultation

Dentures are built to replace all or nearly all missing teeth. In addition to dental bridges or dental crowns, dentures are one of several effective options that can be considered for tooth loss treatment. Dr. Mortensen will determine the best solution for you during a consultation.

Impressions

Impressions will be taken of your dental arches and any remaining teeth. These will be used to fabricate full dentures or partial dentures that are specifically suited to your contours.

Surgery

If you are receiving implant-supported dentures, oral surgery will be required to place your dental implants. Your implants will then need about three to six months to fuse to your jaw.

Placement

When your final dentures are ready for placement, you can return to our office where Dr. Mortensen will ensure a comfortable fit. If you're receiving implant-supported dentures, they will be connected to your implants.

Can I Rely on Dental Insurance To Help Cover My Treatment?

Yes, you can use your insurance for dentures. Because they can be considered necessary for your oral and overall health, dentures are usually at least partially covered through your dental insurance.

If you have out-of-pocket costs, we also offer a range of financing options, so you can smile, eat, and talk confidently once again.
